Food Manufacturing, Processing and Packaging Industry
The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety was first published in 1998 and released on August 1, 2018 in its 8th issue. The standard provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality for the food manufacturing, processing and packing industry.
The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI).
Assessments against BRC Global Standard for Food Safety Issue 8 will commence from the 1st February 2019.
There are several changes and new elements to BRC Food Issue 8, including:
- Encouraging a food safety culture
- Expansion of the requirements for environmental monitoring
- Encouraging sites to further develop systems for security and food defense
- Adding clarity to the requirements for high risk and high care production risk zones
- Providing greater clarity for pet food manufacturers
- Ensuring global applicability and GFSI benchmarking
BRC Food and BRC FSMA Voluntary Module
To support alignment with the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), the standard has introduced the BRC FSMA Voluntary Module which can be added to a BRC Global Standard for Food Safety audit. The module brides the gap in requirements between FSMA and the BRC Standard.
