FSSC 22000 vs FSMA Comparison
FSSC 22000 aligns with FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food (Final Rule). To help make this determination, an independent evaluation of FSSC 22000 was compared to FSMA requirements by The Acheson Group (TAG). In summary, TAG found that “FSSC 22000 often exceeds FDA requirements” and “where FSSC 22000 is not exceeding, the scheme requirements are in very large measure comparable to those of the Final Rule” TAG: April 2016. FSSC 22000 Certification + Supplier and Second Party Audits
FSSC 22000 helps address the fragmentation of standards across the food industry; however, in response to food scares, major manufacturers and retailers have introduced bespoke standards which can now be harmonized by using FSSC 22000 as a base, and adding specific additional requirements as necessary.
One of LRQA’s specialisms is working with leading food and beverage organizations to develop their own food safety program that is compliant with FSSC 22000 and/or deliver a range of certification and training services to help an organization assess both its and its supply chain’s compliance with all necessary elements of modern, internationally recognized food safety management.
