On June 29 in Santa Barbara, California, clients, community members and area business leaders gathered for an evening reception to celebrate the launch of LRQA Americas Sustainability, Inc. formerly Ryerson, Master and Associates, Inc. (RMA).

The event marked the company’s focus to leverage its position as one of the leading, longest-standing accredited greenhouse gas verification bodies in the United States by expanding its service offerings to support clients with a wider range of sustainable business services, including social responsibility and water management among others.

During the reception, Santa Barbara City Councilmember Grant House spoke about the importance of LRQA Americas Sustainability’s services and how the positive impacts of those services benefit not only their clients but also the communities in which those clients operate.

Jack Sahl, Director of Environment & Resource Sustainability at Southern California Edison, recognized the LRQA Americas Sustainability team’s expertise and expressed his enthusiasm to work with the company.  “We are challenged to provide electricity that is safe, reliable and affordable but also to reduce our environmental footprint.  This won’t happen unless we have tools and techniques to do it, and so we’re working with LRQA Americas Sustainability to take a systems approach to find business value and address our challenges,” commented Jack Sahl.

Following the keynote speeches, Andrew Smith, President, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, Inc. recognized Carnival Corporation & plc for its environmental stewardship and presented Carnival’s ISO 14064 assurance certificate to James Van Langen, Vice President Management Systems, and Neville Dias, Director of Reporting and Analysis, both from Carnival’s Corporate Maritime Policy and Compliance Department.  Carnival is believed to be the first cruise company to receive ISO 14064 certification.

In addition, Dr. Ivor John, General Manager LRQA Americas Sustainability, Senior Technical Specialist Jamie Britto and Technical Specialist Jennifer Foronjy, presented Doug Hagensen from Backyard Bounty (a food assistance program within the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County) with a donation to support the program’s continued success.

The evening concluded with a ribbon cutting ceremony in the new office of LRQA Americas Sustainability.
