LRQA client Repsol first refinery to achieve ISO 50001 certification
10/12/2011
Repsol is leading the way for other European refineries in their commitment to improving performance in Energy Management
Repsol’s A Coruña Refinery in Spain has once again been recognized for its work in Energy Management after receiving ISO 50001 certification from LRQA, making it the first refinery in the world to receive this certification. The Repsol Complex in A Coruña was already certified last May in accordance with European standard EN-16001, making it one of the first European refineries (and the first for Repsol) to achieve that recognition.
The energy management system improves control over energy consumption and costs, facilitating a streamlined implementation of savings opportunities, contributing to a reduction in CO2 emissions.
The speed in adapting to the new standard was possible due to the maturity of the working methods in Energy Management employed at the A Coruña Refinery for many years now. In the past two years, it has served as a pilot project for the entire Repsol group. Repsol is at the forefront of the sector, improving its competitiveness and energy efficiency. This experience will serve as an example to be followed by the Company’s other centers.
