LRQA Food Forum Brazil – Blog 3
September 1, 2011
The LRQA Food Forum Brazil kicked off this morning with enthusiastic discussions focused around the workings of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the Foundation for Food Safety Certification’s FSSC 22000.
LRQA’s Global Manager Food Services, Cor Groenveld, Chairman of the Foundation for Food Safety Certification and member of the GFSI Technical Committee, explained the advantages and benefits of implementing a GFSI recognized certification program based on FSSC 22000. The discussion sparked lots of interest from the audience, judging by the number and types of questions asked.
Cor was followed by Beatriz Del Fiol, Lead Food Safety Assessor for LRQA Brazil, who explained how and why FSSC 22000 can help you better manage your system and gave explicit details on the standard and how it works.
Beatriz was followed by Ulisses Diaz from Cargill who explained why Cargill chose 22000 and highlighted the many benefits they’ve received from certification, including the decrease in the number of assessments per year and how there was harmonization globally at Cargill.
This afternoon’s session will discuss how FSSC 22000 is being positioned to be applied across the food supply chain, as a result of new initiatives such as PAS 223 and PAS 222.
