Duane Wood, the Global Marketing & Strategy Director for LRQA, shared a stage with Greenfence founder & CEO, Mr Mitchell Chait and Kelvin Harris, Director, Advisory at PwC during a breakfast session on the second day of the GFSI Global Food Safety Conference. The session, which was moderated by Andrew Smith, Executive Vice President at Greenfence, focused on the future of certification, including the growing importance of technology and the shifting role of assurance.
Addressing a packed auditorium, Wood spoke about the move towards a data driven form of assurance, “As a provider of professional assurance services, we are in a position where we have the opportunity to transform the effectiveness of assurance,” said Wood. “The combination of technology and data will enable us to provide greater transparency and in turn trust - not only for those organizations serving the global food supply chain, but pivotally, the end user.”
Wood spoke about the need to address how the assurance industry needs to think differently and deliver assessments in a manner that is more time and cost effective, particularly for the many thousands of smaller suppliers serving the global food supply chains. “This in turn will deliver increased visibility for those organizations at the top of the supply chain, such as large manufacturers and food processers, on their global networks of suppliers, said Wood. “Our job as an assurance provider is to be able to combine technology and data and provide insight that gives people increased levels of confidence and trust.”
