Lloyd's Register CEO Richard Sadler was among five people honored with honorary doctorates from Newcastle University, UK, on Friday April 3.
Lloyd's Register CEO Richard Sadler was among five people honored with honorary doctorates from Newcastle University, UK, on Friday April 3.
Described as "individuals of talent and distinction" by Vice Chancellor Chris Brink, each has a strong link to the city or University.
Richard Sadler graduated from Newcastle University in 1976 with a BSc in Naval Architecture followed by a Diploma in Welding Technology. He was joined by fellow graduate Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman and Chief Executive of Keppel Offshore and Marine Ltd.
Richard Sadler is the first naval architect to be appointed as Chief Executive Officer in Lloyd's Register's 249 year history.
The Registrar of Newcastle University, Dr John Hogan, said: "By awarding honorary degrees to these five individuals, Newcastle University wishes to recognize their outstanding contributions to society, culture and industry."
On receiving the award Richard Sadler said: "Lloyd's Register has a strong and long-standing relationship with Newcastle University. Through our collaboration, research and development activity, and the recruitment of the University's excellent graduates, Newcastle University has been an important factor in Lloyds Register's success over the years. As a graduate of the University myself, I feel very proud to receive this honour and intend to act as an ambassador, promoting the Universities achievements and capabilities."
Mr. Sadler is also a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. He is currently the President of The Welding Institute and a Visiting Professor of Dalian Maritime University.
